Howie The Harp Advocacy Center: Advocacy Center/Peer Specialist Training information provided by: LifeNet, a program of the Mental Health Association of New York City

This program is the only vocational program that is run by consumer staff with a history of incarceration.  The center trains consumers who are interested in being employed in the human services field. The training is an intensive program and it's emphasis is on career development for mental health consumers with histories of incarceration and substance abuse.  The training consists of a six month in-class training followed by a three month internship placement and then permanent placement.
